Triathon Results and Update: Triathlon Training

By jared Leave a Comment

So I finished my last triathlon of this year more than likely, the Jackson Country Tri. As mentioned before, I did the short course and really had a great time; my triathlon training was worth it. This was a great race for me and I think I did pretty well. The weight training I had been doing really helped keep my legs strong through the bike and run. The day started off at 4:45 a.m. with me getting up and ready. I had gotten all my gear loaded up and on the car the night before. We (wifey … [Read more...] about Triathon Results and Update: Triathlon Training

Triathlon Training Update 07-04-2011

By jared Leave a Comment

So it's down to just a week left until my first triathlon. If you haven't been following along, I'll be competing in the sprint distance, 500 meter swim, 9 mile bike, and 2.4 mile run. Having competed in a half marathon in June, I think I'm pretty good cardio wise but having been training hard on my swimming. I purchased well known swimming instructor, Terry Laughlin's Total Immersion Swimming: Perpetual Motion Freestyle in Ten Lessons. I'm only through the first 3 lessons but so far it's … [Read more...] about Triathlon Training Update 07-04-2011

Triathlon Training: A Beginners Training Schedule

By jared Leave a Comment

As mentioned, I'm going to be doing a short course triathlon coming up next month; so time to start triathlon training . Since training for the 1/2 marathon, I'm feeling pretty good cardio wise but need to step up some transition training and getting my body ready for the different types of activities. If you've never run immediately after a long bike ride, try it, it's really weird! So here's an overview of my training schedule which includes cycling, swimming, strength training, and … [Read more...] about Triathlon Training: A Beginners Training Schedule

Running My First Half Marathon: The Results

By jared Leave a Comment

So I did it, I ran the Hospital Hill Half Marathon. And let me tell you, it was pretty brutal. I thought I was pretty prepared but the hills on the course were pretty tough. I was OK until about mile 10 and then it hit me. I had a major goal of not walking but I must admit I walked through the second to last hydration stop and a lot of the last up-hill in mile 11. I initially said I'd like to finish around 2 hours and 13 minutes and I got pretty close. The official time was 2:14:27. Here's the … [Read more...] about Running My First Half Marathon: The Results

BRWR Training Update 06-03-2011

By jared Leave a Comment

So it's the night before my first 1/2 marathon. I feel pretty good. I've been drinking plenty of water today and am getting ready for my big spaghetti dinner. I have my trusty Garmin 305 all charged up and ready to go. At this point, I plan on wearing my heart rate monitor as well during the race so I can see how I do. The race I'll be running is the Hospital Hill 1/2 Marathon. This half is known for it's hills (see pic) so I hope I'll fair OK. The overall elevation gain is 377 ft which I do … [Read more...] about BRWR Training Update 06-03-2011

BRWR Training Update 5-30-2011

By jared Leave a Comment

Well, less than a week until my half-marathon. All seems to be going well with my half-marathon training. I did my long run on 5-25 at 10.21 miles. I recently purchased a new running watch (Garmin 305 with Heart Rate monitory) so watch for an updated review on that and hopefully new data to share about my training. I decided to look at one of two (and hopefully enter) triathlons in the Month of July so watch for detailed training reports on that as well. Here's the latest workout summary from … [Read more...] about BRWR Training Update 5-30-2011

Best Running Watch Review Training Update 03-21-2011

By jared

Today was a bike ride for me. Felt pretty good. I kept up a pretty good cadence, trying to stay around 90 the entire trip. One thing I discovered about my CateEye Double Wireless is, that although it does display cadence, there doesn't appear to be a way to view average cadence after the ride. Sort of a bummer. I hope to be getting my hands on a Garmin 305 running watch at some point or moving to the Garmin 310xt which I'll hopefully have prior to this years triathlons. The feature to have … [Read more...] about Best Running Watch Review Training Update 03-21-2011
